Razz is a variant of 7-card-stud poker. This is the lowball variant of poker. The lowest hand wins the pot in this game.

In this variant, the player is dealt with 7 cards. The winning hand in Razz is the best possible 5-card hand, which is the wheel and it is 5, 4, 3, 2, A.

Ace in this hand is counted as low. Straights and flushes do not work against the low hand. Razz is also played as a part of the mixed poker game known as HORSE.

There is a mixed variant of poker known as H.O.R.S.E where:

  • H stands for Hold 'em
  • O for Omaha
  • R for Razz
  • S for stud
  • E for eight-or-better

A maximum of 8 players are permitted to play the Razz poker game. In Razz poker, there is no need for the player to fulfill the eight-or-better rule to hit the pot. The players will fold, check, bet, call, raise, and re-raise as per the betting structure set by the poker room in which they are playing at.

The game progresses as follows:

  • Players make the ante.
  • Ante is a compulsory stake that every participant should put in to the pot before the cards are dealt.
  • There are no blinds in Razz poker game.
  • Third Street Betting: Each player at the table is dealt with three cards face up and two cards face down. This is known as the third street betting.
  • The player who has got the highest ranking hand in the face up cards is made to make the compulsory bring in. The bet continues in the clockwise direction from the player who makes the bring in. After the fold, call, raise, and re-raise action is complete at the table the game progresses to the Fourth Street Betting Round.
  • Fourth Street Betting: Each player at the table is dealt with one face up card. This is known as the fourth street card. The player who has the lowest hand rank from the exposed card is the first to act in this round. And, the betting progresses in the clockwise direction from this player. After the completion of the betting round, the game progresses to the Fifth Street Betting.
  • Fifth Street Betting: Each player at the table is dealt with another face up card. This is known as the fifth street card. In this round, the player who has an 8 high hand is supposed to act first and the game progresses in the clockwise direction from this player. After the completion of the betting round, the game progresses to the Sixth Street Betting.
  • Sixth Street Betting: Each player at the table is dealt with another face up card. This is known as the sixth street card. The player who has the lowest hand rank from the exposed card is the first to act in this round. And, the betting progresses in the clockwise direction from this player. After the completion of the betting round, the game progresses to the Seventh Street Betting.
  • Seventh Street Betting: This is also known as the river round. Each player at the table is dealt with another face up card. This is known as the seventh street card. The player who has the lowest hand rank from the exposed card is the first to act in this round. And, the betting progresses in the clockwise direction from this player. After the completion of the betting round, the game progresses to the show down.

The winner of the game is identified in this game. The player with the best low ranking hand wins the pot. There is no 8-or-better qualifier for the low hand in this game.
